Our story

We began in 2005 as two developers, operating as a business unit called PIER to create online tools for a not-for-profit international education college. A few years later and a growing team of eight, we created a free online language-learning platform known as MOOEC. This captured the attention of Australia’s most diverse broadcast organisation, SBS, sparking a long-standing partnership and the creation of the Cultural Atlas, the world’s leading public resource for cross-cultural and religious information.

In 2021 amidst the global pandemic, we officially founded our own company rooted in the firm belief that a greater understanding of people’s unique experiences and identities creates opportunities for more powerful and meaningful connections. Our newfound independence as a startup sparked the energy and focus to develop a new platform to consolidate the full scope of our content in a single unified platform: Mosaica.
